Around 1 p.m. on January 2, 2026, the hamburg steak restaurant we had planned to visit had a long line outside.

Rather than wait, we changed plans and looked for somewhere nearby. That is how we ended up at Kando no Niku to Kome Fujiyoshiwara (感動の肉と米 富士吉原店).

It was not a restaurant we had researched or saved in advance. But once we started eating, it stopped feeling like a second choice.

We came in with no expectations, and the meat was good

Once the order went in, the staff started grilling the meat in the open cooking area.

The steak arrived on a hot plate, and the hamburg we ordered with it was good too. We had not come here expecting much, but the meat turned out to be genuinely good.

By the end of the meal, there was no sense that we had simply settled for a backup plan. We were just glad we had happened to walk in.

The rice machine stayed with me too

The restaurant has a largely self-service setup. Rice and soup come from the self-service area, and the detail that caught my attention was the machine that automatically dispenses rice into the bowl.

It was a small thing, but those are often the details that linger after a trip. When I think back on this lunch, I remember the rice dispenser almost as quickly as the meat.

Dessert from the supermarket in front

We had arrived by car, and the parking area was large and easy to use.

After lunch, we noticed a supermarket directly in front of the restaurant sharing the same parking lot. We left the car where it was, walked over, and picked up dessert.

We never made it to the restaurant we had originally planned, but the easy sequence of lunch and dessert became a better memory than expected.
