January 3, 2026.
We stopped at Oishi Park on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchiko. The landscape was unmistakably winter, and Mount Fuji stood sharply across the lake under a clear blue sky.
Parking was straightforward during our visit, and the walk from the car to the lakeside view was short. It was the kind of place where you could stop briefly and still come away with a wide, open view of Fuji.

Through the winter reeds
We walked toward the lake through a narrow path in the dry reeds.
At first they blocked much of the view. Then the lake opened up ahead, with Mount Fuji appearing beyond it. There was no need to climb to a high observation deck — the broad shape of the mountain and the water were already right there at eye level.
Lake Kawaguchiko in clear winter light
There were very few clouds that day, so the outline of Mount Fuji stayed unusually clear.
Where the sun hit the water, the surface of the lake glittered almost white. The faded winter reeds, blue sky and snow on the mountain made the season feel obvious without needing much else in the frame.

Lavender soft-serve
Oishi Park is closely associated with lavender, so we tried the lavender soft-serve while we were there.
The Oishi Softcream Base menu during our visit included lavender among several flavors. We chose it, and it was an easy, enjoyable finish after walking by the lake.

Oishi Park did not require a long walk or a complicated plan. A short stroll from the parking area was enough to see Lake Kawaguchiko and Mount Fuji together, which made it an easy stop to add while driving around the lake.
