Late on the evening of January 3, 2026.

After spending the day at Fuji-Q Highland, I was on the way back to our accommodation when the smell of meat grilling somewhere nearby made us stop.

That smell led us into Gyushige Fujikyu Highland Mae (牛繁 富士急ハイランド前店).

It was already fairly late, but there were still two groups waiting ahead of us. After a short wait, we sat down and opened the tablet at the table to work through the menu.

Almost too many choices

The menu took a while to understand.

There were individual cuts, assorted platters and several all-you-can-eat options. With so much on the screen, it had the slightly overwhelming feeling of opening a menu where almost everything seems to be available.

We considered one of the all-you-can-eat courses, then decided to order individual dishes instead and try several different cuts. Beef tongue was one of them, and whenever we wanted something else, we simply added it from the tablet.

A little of everything over charcoal

A large plate arrived with several different cuts, and we cooked them one by one over the charcoal grill in the middle of the table.

This was not the kind of yakiniku restaurant built around ultra-premium cuts, but the meat was genuinely enjoyable. After spending the entire day walking and riding attractions, sitting in front of a hot charcoal grill and taking our time with dinner felt exactly right.

The beef tongue added a different texture between the other cuts and kept the meal from feeling repetitive.

Trying the soft-drink option

We also used the unlimited soft-drink option and tried several different drinks.

Changing flavors was fun, although to me the drinks tasted a little light and diluted overall. Still, after a full day in the theme park, being able to keep grabbing something cold to drink was welcome.

A good ending to the Fuji-Q day

Gyushige was not a restaurant I had researched before the trip, or even somewhere I had planned to visit that evening.

We simply followed the smell of grilling meat on the way back to our accommodation.

After a day of roller coasters, Mount Fuji and the lights of Fuji-Q after dark, ending the night around a charcoal grill somehow fit the day perfectly.

It was not memorable because it was a grand or exceptional meal. It stayed with me because we were tired, hungry, found it by chance and had a genuinely good late dinner.
