At around 8 p.m. on January 1, 2026, after dropping our bags at the hotel on the first night of the trip, we went out for a walk with nowhere specific in mind and ended up at Ramen DANBO Shizuoka Tokiwacho (ラーメン暖暮 静岡常磐町店).

It was not a restaurant I had researched in advance. The red sign and ramen photos caught my eye as we walked through the city at night, so we simply went in.

A ticket machine and a seat by the open kitchen

A menu board outside showed the bowls and prices, and orders were placed through a ticket machine near the entrance.

During my visit, the regular ramen was listed at ¥880 and the spicy Rekka Ramen (烈火ラーメン) at ¥980. I went for the red bowl.

We sat at the counter facing the kitchen. The open setup made it easy to watch the bowls being prepared, and the highball I ordered while waiting was very good too. It suited the feeling of that first night perfectly.

Rekka Ramen on the first night of the trip

Then came the Rekka Ramen (烈火ラーメン).

DANBO is known for Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen, and this was the spicy red version. I had not planned the dish, or even the restaurant, before walking in.

It was genuinely, memorably good.

The scene was simple: a walk after checking into the hotel, a highball, and a bowl of ramen. But because none of it had been planned, it became one of the clearest memories from the start of the trip.

Bring cash or a supported QR payment option

One practical detail worth knowing is the payment setup.

I paid cash at the ticket machine during my visit. When I rechecked the store information in September 2026, regular credit cards and electronic money were still listed as unavailable, while selected QR payments such as PayPay, d Pay (d払い), Rakuten Pay and au PAY were listed as accepted.

So I would not rely on a foreign credit card alone. Cash or a supported Japanese QR payment option is the safer choice. Payment methods can change, so recheck the latest store information before visiting.
