I had heard about Sawayaka (炭焼きレストランさわやか) long before arriving in Shizuoka.
Yet I still have not eaten its famous hamburg steak. I made it to a restaurant twice, and both times the wait simply did not fit the rest of the day.
On January 2, 2026, I stopped at the Fujinishiki store in Fuji. Two days later, on January 4, I tried again at the Shimada store. On both visits, the wait shown at the restaurant was roughly an hour, and I chose not to risk the plans that came next.

So this is not a food review. It is a note from someone who got as far as the front door twice—and wants the third attempt to end at a table.
The popularity was obvious before I tasted anything
What stayed with me most from those two stops was the scene outside the restaurant.
Cars kept arriving and people waited around the entrance for their turn. It did not feel like a place sustained only by tourists chasing a famous name; it looked woven into the local routine as well.
Seeing that in person made me more curious, not less. I already knew the reputation. What I still want to understand is why people are willing to build waiting time into the meal.
Current check-in works in person or by smartphone
I checked the official information again on September 13, 2026.
Sawayaka does not accept table reservations or fixed-time bookings. Instead, guests take a queue ticket either at the restaurant or by smartphone. Smartphone ticketing was expanded to all stores from July 29, 2026, and opens at the same time as in-store ticketing.
The smartphone option requires LINE and location access. One phone cannot hold active tickets for multiple stores at once; to switch stores, the current ticket must first be cancelled.
Fujinishiki and Shimada are currently listed among the stores where ticketing begins at 9:30 a.m. Standard opening hours are generally 10:45 a.m.–10:00 p.m., with a 10:30 a.m. opening on weekends and public holidays. Special operating periods can differ, so I would still check the official page on the day of the visit.
The two places I visited
Fujinishiki Store (富士錦店)
1-11-16 Nishikicho, Fuji, Shizuoka 417-0045
Shimada Store (島田店)
8912-2 Gioncho, Shimada, Shizuoka 427-0058
Which one I choose next time will depend on the route. The bigger change is that I will not squeeze Sawayaka between tightly timed stops.
Instead of arriving first and deciding whether the wait is tolerable, I want to check the official queue status before moving and leave enough flexibility for the meal itself.
