At around 2 p.m. on January 1, 2026, I arrived at Shimizu Fish Market Kashi no Ichi Maguro-kan (清水魚市場 河岸の市 まぐろ館).
The harbor was quieter than I expected on New Year’s Day. Mt. Fuji rose beyond the waterfront, but the mood changed as soon as I stepped inside Maguro-kan: restaurant displays were filled with tuna and seafood bowls, and the building felt much livelier with people deciding where to eat.

Shimizu Ajiwai-don with raw shirasu and tuna
The one thing I most wanted to try that day was raw shirasu (生しらす), or raw whitebait.
At Kaigan Shokudo Bannou Suisan (海岸食堂 バンノウ水産) on the first floor of Maguro-kan, I ordered the Shimizu Ajiwai-don (清水あじわい丼). The menu during my visit listed bluefin tuna chutoro (medium-fatty tuna), bintoro, and akami (lean tuna), together with raw sakura shrimp and raw shirasu. The price was ¥1,780.

The translucent shirasu caught my eye first. I had come specifically hoping to try it, and it tasted clean and very fresh rather than fishy. The soft tuna and tiny sakura shrimp gave the same bowl completely different textures.
It was not a dish that needed much decoration. Fresh ingredients were the point, and eating them right beside Shimizu Port made the meal feel inseparable from the place.
A menu photo that keeps the January 2026 price
Travel menus and prices change quickly, which makes an old menu photo surprisingly useful.
On January 1, 2026, the Shimizu Ajiwai-don was ¥1,780. The menu also showed the set with a choice of tuna cutlet or Caesar salad. Prices and set details may have changed since then, so I treat this as a record of what was offered on the day I visited.

Worth a short walk after lunch
Kashi no Ichi combines seafood restaurants with places selling fish and other seafood. A short walk around Maguro-kan showed much more than tuna: shirasu, sakura shrimp and crab kept appearing in the market displays.

Taking a few minutes to look around after eating made the market feel like part of the Shimizu Port experience rather than simply a place to stop for lunch.
If you drive, check the parking flow first
I arrived by car, and the parking entrance was a little confusing to find at first.
During my visit, I paid at a pre-payment machine in front of the building before driving out. Parking layout, rates and payment procedures can change, so I would recheck the official parking FAQ before returning by car.
