My trip to Shizuoka began and ended at Shizuoka Airport.

If you are accustomed to large international hubs, its compact scale might feel surprising at first. But when traveling, that smaller size quickly becomes a genuine advantage. Everything is visible at a glance without navigating sprawling corridors.

As our flight approached Shizuoka, the coastline and green tea plantations unfolded beneath the clouds. In the distance, the snow-capped ridge of Mount Fuji stood out crisply against the sky.

It was a memorable scene that announced my arrival in Shizuoka before even stepping foot on the ground.

Simple and compact flow

Once inside, Shizuoka Airport proved clean, compact, and efficient.

The arrival flow was short and straightforward, taking just a few minutes from baggage claim to the rental-car counters on the 1st floor. For road-trip travelers carrying luggage, avoiding long walks through enormous terminals is a major plus.

Dining upon arrival and before departure

The 1st floor has a convenience store convenient for quick refreshments upon arrival, while the 2nd and 3rd floors offer several restaurants for a proper meal before flight departures.

Most dining establishments close relatively early, so travelers with evening flights should plan their meal schedule in advance.

Refueling before returning a rental vehicle can be an inconvenient chore on road trips. Shizuoka Airport features an on-site gas station near Parking Lot 2, allowing travelers to drive straight to the airport, top up the tank, and return the car without searching through unfamiliar streets.

PRACTICAL INFO

Shizuoka Airport is compact and easy to navigate. Note that restaurant and service hours may differ from the general terminal opening hours.

Airplane Seat Tip — Mt. Fuji View Direction

On flights between Korea (Incheon, etc.) and Shizuoka, selecting the following seat sides generally offers the best chance of spotting Mt. Fuji from the window:

  • Korea ➔ Shizuoka (Inbound): Left-hand side seats (Window / Column A)
  • Shizuoka ➔ Korea (Outbound): Right-hand side seats (Window / Column F/K)
  • Note: Runway approach directions (Runway 12 vs 30 depending on wind), Air Traffic Control (ATC) routing, and cloud coverage can affect visibility, so views cannot be fully guaranteed.
